In 1994, IKEA relocated to Holtagarðar, where it remained until 2006, when it moved to Kauptún, where it is still located today.

It takes the efforts of hundreds of individuals to create practical design at a good price that makes everyday life better. Below is a description of the departments that make up the IKEA store operations.
As a home furnishings company, IKEA relies on specialists in visual merchandising and interior design, graphic design, and skilled trades. The store requires constant improvement and updates to always stay in good condition.
Within IKEA’s customer service department, roles can be found throughout the store—from customer reception and children's play area supervision to cashier services, returns desk, and customer support.
IKEA’s logistics department ensures that the flow of goods from supplier to customer is as direct and efficient as possible, with minimal environmental impact. This includes the transportation and handling of goods in distribution centers and in stores.
The IKEA food services department offers a variety of roles within six areas – the restaurant, the café, the IKEA Bistro, the Swedish Food Market, the bakery, and the staff cafeteria.
Our sales staff present the product range and support the IKEA self-service system daily. This requires sales skills along with knowledge of IKEA’s customers, philosophy, and product selection.
At the company office, specialists work in a range of areas including marketing, translation, human resources, finance, IT and technology, product and sales management, B2B services, design, and more.
The company has security guards on duty 24/7. Their role is to ensure safety within the store and on all work premises. They are specially trained in first aid and emergency response.
In addition to the departments listed above, smaller units operate to ensure the daily running of the store proceeds smoothly.
