One of the most loved Swedish traditions is fika – socialising over coffee and cookies. With sweet treats in the KAFFEREP series, we want to share the tradition so more can enjoy memorable fika moments.

Responsibility from plantation to cake

We want all cocoa sold and served in our stores to be grown and produced responsibly. To ensure that we live up to this goal, we’ve chosen to work with the Rainforest Alliance certification. It’s a world-leading label that, among other things, works to preserve local ecosystems and create better economic and living conditions for farmers. Care and responsibility all the way from the plantations to your chocolate cake!

Function/solution

Seven is a magic number

From kafferep to fika – the Swedish tradition of gathering at home to socialise, drink coffee and eat cookies has a long history. The custom came about during the 19th century and meant that the host was expected to serve exactly seven types of cookies to their guests. Fewer were considered stingy and more was seen as over the top, while seven was the perfect balance. At IKEA, we love this way of enjoying a special moment with others, no matter how many cookies are served.

Summary

Sweden’s No. 1 cake

Commonly called “Princess cake”, this type of cake was named after Swedish Royal Princesses Margaretha, Märtha, and Astrid. It’s an airy cake on a sponge cake base filled with raspberry jam, whipped cream and vanilla custard, and coated with green marzipan. We have made our own version, KAFFEREP cream cake with almond paste. Different size, pink instead of green, but the same delicious taste.
