A big step toward a smarter home
IKEA’s new smart products have arrived. These smart products are the result of many years of development and testing, and their goal is to make smart homes simpler and more accessible for more people. It’s now easier to use different smart products together—even if they’re from different manufacturers—and you can control your smart home from one place: in a single app or through one gateway, in a simple and convenient way.
Matter – the shared language of the smart home
The new smart products total 21, and they all have one thing in common: they are designed to work with Matter—an all-purpose smart home standard for every home.
Matter is a new way for smart home products to work together. Simply put, Matter is a shared language that allows smart products from different brands to connect and function together within the same system. That means you could, for example, have light bulbs from IKEA, sensors from Philips, and a camera from Samsung—and control everything from the same place!
You can choose whether to use the IKEA Home smart app or an app from another manufacturer that supports Matter. The same goes for hubs/gateways—you can use IKEA’s DIRIGERA hub or another hub that works with Matter.
DIRIGERA – the heart of the smart home
If Matter is the language, you could think of DIRIGERA as the interpreter. The DIRIGERA hub works with Matter and connects both new and older smart home products. It acts like a bridge between older IKEA Home smart products that use Zigbee and newer Matter products—both from IKEA and other manufacturers. This means old and new products can work together in the same smart home without needing any additional equipment.
Which products work with Matter?
To find out whether a product from another company works with the IKEA Home smart app and the DIRIGERA hub, you need to check the product packaging. There should be a specific Matter symbol showing that the product supports this technology.
New Matter products can be connected to older TRÅDFRI and Home smart products through the DIRIGERA hub.
Some remote controls, such as BILRESA, MYGGBETT, and MYGGSPRAY, can also be paired directly with other IKEA smart products in a simple way. Some products, such as SOLSKYDD, KULGLASS, and NATTBAD, use Bluetooth and therefore do not work with Matter.
